Floor flange 101 – Learn the basics and beyond

A floor flange is a fitting used to secure pipe work or steel rods to floors, wall, ceiling surfaces.  Although the term floor Flash indicates the part can only be used to attach the floors, the parts are commonly used to attach to multiple types of surfaces.

In the picture below, you can see an example of a floor flange used to attach a guard rail to a concrete retaining wall.  This particular floor flange is made from cast iron.

This particular installation was completed by the federal government in the city of Washington DC, for a prominent historic building.  The work done for painting and finishing the guard rail guardrail is sloppy and unprofessional because they did not mask the concrete substrate to prevent overspray of paint.
