Kentledge in construction- Where tradition meets modern strength
Kentledge is large and heavy concrete blocks used to support structures above grade. Below grade support harnesses the stabilizing force and mass of the earth. In the area of work shown in the image below, the builder is supoorting a historic masonry facade and using temporary work outside of the area of permitted permenant construction. In this case, since kentledge blocks are temporary and mobile, they use this support method to avoid disturbing earth and subsoils outside of the permitted area of permanent works.
Systems like this will often be used in densely built urban areas to reduce the footprint and zone of construction works.
